Entertainment is any activity that holds or diverts an audience’s attention and gives them pleasureand delight. It developed in a wide variety of forms over thousands of years. Many of these – for example, the story of Scheherazade in the Persian professional storytelling tradition – have been turned into music (by composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski), film, theatre or video games. Entertaiment takes many different forms and can be enjoyed by audiences on any scale.
